Frances Maya is a Japanese singer born on December 28, 1979 to an English father and Japanese mother. She grew up in Hyogo Prefecture and studied abroad in England for a year in high school, then moved to Tokyo to go to college and has lived there since. Her interest in music began very early in her life, and before she even began elementary school she participated in a neighborhood singing group. She later joined her middle school's choir, where she also learned to play piano. She is especially fond of jazz and is heavily influenced by it.
