Luiz Americano (1900-1960) was a brazilian virtuoso of clarinet and one of the most relevant composers from the gender choro. Son of band conductor Jorge Americano, Luiz learned the clarinet and the saxophone at an early age. After been a musician in the Brazilian Army for a short period, he became a professional musician,playing in the most important Rio de Janeiro orchestras of those times. In 1932 he started composing choros that became great hits and firmed him as one of the main brazilian choro composers.
