Portuguese composer born in 1890 into a renowned musical family, Luís de Freitas Branco quickly rose to fame with recognition from the respected Vianna da Motta. In 1910 he way studing music in Berlin. One year later he travelled to Paris where he met Claude Debussy and had his first experience with the impressionist movement. His compositions were initially by necessity classical, but later he wrote musical scores that educated and liberated his audience to enjoy romantic concerts.
