Debbye was born in 1957 to itinerant missionary parents. She studied classical piano for most of her childhood, and began writing when she was sixteen years old. She and her husband pastor a church in the Charlotte, NC area, where she serves as the counseling pastor. She also has a ministry known as Awakened to Grow in the Charlotte area.
